A Little History

The First Christian Church of Jonesboro, Arkansas was organized in the summer of 1886 by Elder Alfred Carter and A. J. Alsup.

Downtown Church Location

The official organization of the church took place the following October with thirteen charter members; by 1888 the membership had grown to more than thirty and a wooden church building was constructed.  Over the next seven years, the congregation grew and bought a lot on Main Street to build a larger facility. A red brick building on Main street was dedicated on November 26, 1905.

In 1919, the church purchased a corner lot on Main and Warner. In 1931, FCC dedicated a modern Educational Building with classrooms and a temporary sanctuary. And on June 7, 1953 a new sanctuary was dedicated, followed by remodeling the education building. On February 24, 1988, the Fellowship Hall was dedicated in honor of Curt Tull, a previous minister.

During the years since its founding, First Christian Church has ordained ministers from its ranks, hosted missionary societies, housed refugees from floods, sponsored Regional Assemblies, and participated as one of the foremost congregations in the area.

Woodsprings Road Facility

This downtown church site was sold in 2010 to the United Methodist church next door. Continuing its ministry to the community, First Christian relocated to the corner of Woodsprings Road and Casey Springs road. The present church building was completed and dedicated in 2012.
